Help our friend, Erik, afford his fight with Cancer!

I still am going to do this and I plan on losing the weight and all that good stuff. I do want to change topics up for this one post at least. My best friend, Erik Palmer, who’s 27 years old has cancer and is fighting hard he was diagnosed with stage 2b testicular cancer back in April and has had surgery to remove the initial mass in his testicle. He’s fighting the good fight and was still working from home through the chemotherapy, but recently he’s lost his job. The job has stated it was due to budget cuts, but most likely it was due to the fact that Erik, was too weak from the chemotherapy to work some days. Erik, now has no job and no insurance and no way of paying for his cancer treatments

More than 62% of bankruptcies in America alone have to do with medical expenses and that’s lot and that’s a lot of sick people who didn’t do anything wrong except be diagnosed with the most expensive diseases to treat, Cancer is the second most expensive to treat. Cancer is also the second mostly deadly disease the first being heart disease.

In a article in Forbes it listed the top most expensive chronic illness:

“Unsurprisingly, heart conditions took the number one spot, costing an estimated $76 billion to treat, $48 billion of which was due to inpatient hospital stays. Other chronic conditions that made the top 10 include cancer, which had a $69 billion price tag, diabetes, at $34 billion, and osteoarthritis, also at $34 billion”

And an article from Cancer.org aka American Cancer Society states that cancer costs are in the billions annually. In 2009 according the US Census Bureau, almost 51 million people were uninsured in 2009 and 28% ofpeople uninsured were from 18-34, which my age group falls under.

So I’ve decided to do something about it, I’ve created a fundraiser in his honor and I’m raising money to help pay for Erik’s medical expenses. I want to raise $100,000 by September and you can help!

I’ve setup a fundraiser online www.giveforward.com/erikpalmer and in two days we have almost made it to $500 which is a really good start, I think. I ask everyone out there to spread the word of my fundraiser and I will keep you up-to-date of course. All donations will go directly to him to help pay for his chemotherapy and his second surgery removing a mass from his lymph-nodes in his abdomen.

Spread the word in your facebook and join our facebook group, your twitter anything to help my friend in there time of crisis. I don’t want him to have to suffer more than he has to already.
