WATER WATER WATER!!!

By eating relatively clean I lost 15 pounds. What does that mean? Well first things first I got a water filter. If you are thinking about exercising you are probably thinking bottled water and Gatorade. Gatorade is fine when your exercising as replenishing electrolytes is important, but please don’t get bottle water. First off your recycling bin is going to be all water bottles if you have a house or if you’re like me and live in an apartment, everywhere in your apartment.I got the Brita 10 cup pitcher water filter apparently the filters attached to the sink can’t have hot water running through them they burst and spray your kitchen down. (Not my personal experience read enough reviews on amazon to be scared off though)

Also if you need actually reusable water bottles with NO BPA or Bisphenol A which is a toxic chemical which resides in plastic water bottles even some kinds that claim to be reusable so make sure. When these bottle are washed with hot/warm water this chemical is released thus contaminating your water 😦

There is a foolproof way to get No BPA water bottle, get a stainless steel water bottle and rest assured!

Ok the people in the room that are saying well why can’t I just drink Gatorade, well it’s simple really Gatorade is only your friend when you are exercising. It has carbohydrates to help you have energy to get through your workout. But carbohydrates is a fancy name for Sugar without exercising while drinking Gatorade you are drinking sugar and salt!

Yes it will take some discipline to drink water I do suggest cold turkey especially for people who feel they are going to cheat if they see soda, iced tea, HI-C, *insert favorite sugary drink here*, etc. My boyfriend insisted on drinking iced tea with dinner because he thought it was gross to drink water with it. But if you eat healthy it won’t seem unnatural to drink water with your meal. A chicken salad and water does sound better than extra cheese pizza and water. Eat better you will drink better too, that’s my experience.

Health/Biology lesson, the body is made up of 60% water and the brain is 70% water! And you will bloat a lot less if you drink water especially for ladies around a certain time. There are many benefits of drinking water! And remember to drink the amount of water appropriate for you 8 glass of water might not do it for you.

Remember just because water is more healthy doesn’t mean you should drink 2 liters in one sitting. This will hurt you drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia. If you were to exercises heavily and drink water too much too fast you would sweat out too much electrolytes. For more on this visit: http://chemistry.about.com/cs/5/f/blwaterintox.htm

Also remember infants should only drink breast milk or formula unless otherwise consulted with a pediatrician.

See you much sooner than last time

Help our friend, Erik, afford his fight with Cancer!

I still am going to do this and I plan on losing the weight and all that good stuff. I do want to change topics up for this one post at least. My best friend, Erik Palmer, who’s 27 years old has cancer and is fighting hard he was diagnosed with stage 2b testicular cancer back in April and has had surgery to remove the initial mass in his testicle. He’s fighting the good fight and was still working from home through the chemotherapy, but recently he’s lost his job. The job has stated it was due to budget cuts, but most likely it was due to the fact that Erik, was too weak from the chemotherapy to work some days. Erik, now has no job and no insurance and no way of paying for his cancer treatments

More than 62% of bankruptcies in America alone have to do with medical expenses and that’s lot and that’s a lot of sick people who didn’t do anything wrong except be diagnosed with the most expensive diseases to treat, Cancer is the second most expensive to treat. Cancer is also the second mostly deadly disease the first being heart disease.

In a article in Forbes it listed the top most expensive chronic illness:

“Unsurprisingly, heart conditions took the number one spot, costing an estimated $76 billion to treat, $48 billion of which was due to inpatient hospital stays. Other chronic conditions that made the top 10 include cancer, which had a $69 billion price tag, diabetes, at $34 billion, and osteoarthritis, also at $34 billion”

And an article from Cancer.org aka American Cancer Society states that cancer costs are in the billions annually. In 2009 according the US Census Bureau, almost 51 million people were uninsured in 2009 and 28% ofpeople uninsured were from 18-34, which my age group falls under.

So I’ve decided to do something about it, I’ve created a fundraiser in his honor and I’m raising money to help pay for Erik’s medical expenses. I want to raise $100,000 by September and you can help!

I’ve setup a fundraiser online www.giveforward.com/erikpalmer and in two days we have almost made it to $500 which is a really good start, I think. I ask everyone out there to spread the word of my fundraiser and I will keep you up-to-date of course. All donations will go directly to him to help pay for his chemotherapy and his second surgery removing a mass from his lymph-nodes in his abdomen.

Spread the word in your facebook and join our facebook group, your twitter anything to help my friend in there time of crisis. I don’t want him to have to suffer more than he has to already.

It’s all in your mind

I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, it’s not that hard just do it. Just eat one piece of broccoli or spinach. Just try! The reasoning behind all that nagging is trying to establish a habit. It take about 30 days to install a habit into your life.

We have plenty of habits from dotting your “i’s” a certain way to the bite marks on the pencil that you wrote them with. Its your diet to the people you hang out with everything is based on habit. Are there any habits you wish you had? They are plenty I wish I had. And I am working on them.

Exercising everyday is a habit I formed over the last month and I wish I could tell you it was easy. It really wasn’t. I wish i could say I didn’t dread it completely some days, but my boyfriend totally helped me out. He would say on each day I felt tired or crappy “come on, it’s only 12 minutes and I would say the same to him.

You need two things : 1)To form a habit you need support that is a must! I dont care if you think you are invincible one day you are going to be sore and are not going to do the regiment. What stopping you from doing tomorrow? 2) willpower the willingness to brush it all off and try again.

I can be your workout buddy you can tell me how you’re doing make yourself feel accountable for your workouts. No one else can do this for you and it doesn’t have to be in the beginning of the year to make this change it can be at any time you feel you’ve had enough and want to feel healthy again or for the first time

I start fitness routine at http://bodyrock.tv if you haven’t  tried them try! It’s FREE! And they have a new workout starting today with yoga included into their already awesome cardio sculpting plan. Yay, lean muscle and just in time for bikini season. I’m also gonna try the couch to 5k program.

It check in when the sun is up and tell you how i did.
